Daily Departures

2 Days

This trek is often known as "the two day Inca Trail", "the Sacred Inca Trail" or the "Camino Real de los Incas".
The trek starts at Km104 (104 kilometres along the railway from Cusco) and involves a four hour walk uphill to Wiñay Wayna and a couple of hours further to Machu Picchu making it ideal for trekkers wanting to experience at least a part of the Inca Trail but haven't got the time (or energy) to complete the full 4 day trek.

Day 1

Cuzco / Inca Trek / Machu Picchu

Today you will be picked up from your hotel and transferred to the train station.  Morning train from Cuzco to the Km. 104 where we begin our trek towards Machu Picchu (2,780mts) .
After disembarking we will cross a hanging bridge and continue onto the ruins of Chachabamba (2,710mts).  This ruin was discovered in 1940 and is located at the old Inca Road which runs along the southern banks of the Urubamba River.    From Cachabamba the Inca Trail climbs inot the hillside.  Two hours after leaving Chachabamba our path will descend into a nice Valley turning into a canyon and emerging into the cloud forest.  We will continue on our path living the forest, by passing a beautiful waterfall, and arriving at the foot of the superb ruins of Wiñayhuayna (2,600Mts).  There we will climb up and walk through the urban area, its terraces and the many stone buildings.  (Box lunch).
In the afternoon we will reach the Sun Gate, "Intipunku".  The breathtaking view into the lost Citadel is a unique experience only to be experienced and enjoyed in person.   We shall then descend toward the town of Aguas Calientes for overnight.
We walk approx. 6 hours.
