About a 20-minute boat ride down-river from Puerto Maldonado, the new Hacienda Concepcion features a main lodge, with eight twin rooms and social spaces, and seven individual cabañas on stilts designed in the local style.
With soaring ceilings, a hand-woven thatched roof and furniture crafted from salvaged wood, the main lodge will also be home to Hacienda Concepcion’s main dining room and reception.
Hacienda Concepcion is located on more than 2,000 acres of rainforest within walking distance of Lake Sandoval (home to the endangered giant river otter) and offers a unique range of land and river excursions.
The Hacienda Concepcion’s buffet breakfast is a nutritious and practical way of starting your adventurous days. The fresh and delicious ingredients are local and prepared daily. Buffet lunch and dinner options provide welcome national and international fares after a long day of learning and discovery. CONCEPCION TRAILS Walk through the trails inside Hacienda Concepcion. Interpretation of primary and secondary rain forest: its components, uses and transformations by the human being, and its relevance for the world. Approximately 2-hour walk.
TWILIGHT RIVER Cruise on the Madre de Dios River. Interpretation of the river ecosystem and Amazon creeks, as well as of the southern hemisphere sky. Approximately 2-hour cruise depending on the weather and river conditions.
Breakfast / Lake Sandoval / Lunch / Canopy walkway and Anaconda walk / Rainforest by night / Dinner / Overnight.
LAKE SANDOVAL Navigation in canoe around Lake Sandoval. 50-minute walk towards the Tambopata National Reserve and 1-hour walk through “terra firma” forest. Environmental interpretation of the reserve, forest and oxbow lake. Return to the lodge by foot. (Access to discretion during months of rain).
CANOPY WALKWAY interpretation center to learn about its construction and INKATERRA ASSOCIATION (ITA) conservation projects. Ascend the towers and cross the bridges that connect the treetops. 15-minute walk towards the Anaconda Walk wetlands. Interpretation of flooded ecosystems and observation of fauna. Return to lodge by boat.
RAINFOREST BY NIGHT Walk in the Hacienda Concepcion trail system. Interpretation of the secondary forest during the night. Approximately 2- hour walk.
Breakfast / Canoe ride and native fishing / Lunch / Botanical garden / mammal clay licks / Dinner / Overnight.
CANOE RIDE Canoe ride on the Hacienda Concepción Lake. Flora and fauna sightings. Environmental interpretation of the ecosystem. Native fishing as well as explanation of the “catch and release” experience. Return to the lodge.
BOTANICAL GARDEN Walk through Hacienda Concepcion Botanical Garden and Fitzcarrald Boat. Learn to identify medicinal plants, their importance in local medicine as well as its benefits and practical uses. Walk 15 minutes towards the remains of the Fitzcarrald boat. Historical interpretation of the boat remains, the rubber tree industry and the filming of “Fitzcarraldo”. Head back to the lodge.
MAMMAL CLAY LICKS Clay Lick sighting. Walk 15 to 20 minutes toward one of Hacienda Concepcion mammal clay licks. Interpretation of the clay lick activity: importance, need and behavior. Explanation of the difference in clay licks and their location. Return to the lodge.
Breakfast / Boat back to the city / Butterfly Farm / Transfer to Puerto Maldonado Airport & Departure.
BUTTERFLY HOUSE Visit the INKATERRA butterfly house. There several of the 3,800 Peruvian species are preserved and reproduced.
