On this tour you will discover Mexico's beauty and fascinating past.
Mexico is like a kaleidoscope, with lots of angles to its nature. No two people will see it alike. There are a lot of misconceptions about the country, and sometimes a dire lack of knowledge as well. If you visit with an open mind and a positive attitude, you will be well rewarded. A sense of adventure helps too! Don’t expect anything to be like it is “back home” – it won’t. It is better to expect the unexpected. As the old popular song claims with good reason: “Como México no hay dos” – There’s no two like Mexico.
You will be picked up from the Mexico City Airport and begin our journey Puebla, “City of Angels”, visiting Santa Maria Tonantzintla Temple. Upon our arrival in Puebla we visit the Rosario’s Chapel, the Cathedral, the Main Square and the historic city centre. We stop for an authentic Mexican lunch and continue to Oaxaca and your hotel.
Oaxaca - Monte Alban - Mitla - Tule
We begin the day with a delicious breakfast before visiting Monte Alban, a great archaeological site built on the mountaintop flattened by the Zapotecs where we will find artefacts from the Olmecs, Mixtecs and Zapotecs. The main square, the observatory, Tomb # 7, and the stones of the dancers are just a few of the highlights. Later we continue to Mitla, one of the most enigmatic sacred places in the region. This village had a great importance as a burial site and the buildings are decorated with beautiful and symbolic mosaics. En route we will “meet” the Tule tree, perhaps one of the biggest living beings in the world. We then return to Oaxaca and visit the Cathedral, the magnificent Santo Domingo church and the Regional Museum before returning to our hotel.
Today we have an early morning departure to Tuxtla Gutierrez, capital city of the State of Chiapas. En Route we enjoy a boat ride through Sumidero Canyon, which reaches 1,000 meters at its highest point. Later we continue to your hotel at San Cristobal de Las Casas.
After breakfast we visit San Juan Chamula and Zinacantán; these are typical native towns, where the people still keep their language, customs, and traditional cultural beliefs. This afternoon you can spend at leisure. We recommend visiting the market, the Cathedral, the Santo Domingo church as well as the Jade museum to view King Pakal´s tomb replica.
After breakfast we head to the Agua Azul waterfalls to admire their pristine turquoise coloured waters. Afterwards we will continue on to your hotel in Palenque for dinner.
After breakfast we visit the archaeological site of Palenque. Surrounded by the jungle, this is one of the most important sites of the “Mayan World”. Inside the Pyramid of Inscriptions, King Pakal's sarcophagus and its fascinating carved gravestone were found. We will admire the Sun Temple, the Cross Temple, and the Palace. Have lunch on your own and continue on to the beautiful walled city of Campeche to admire panoramic views through the city. We finish with dinner at our hotel in Campeche.
This morning we depart to Uxmal to explore “the three times built”, the Guesser Pyramid, the Quadrangle of the Nuns, the Governor’s Palace and the game court. Lunch is included. We finish the day in Merida, known as "the white city" to enjoy Montejo Avenue, the monument to Motherland, the Main Square, the Cathedral, and Government Palace.
After breakfast we depart for Chichén Itzá, the most important and awesome Mayan site in Mexico. Declared World Heritage by UNESCO and one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. We will find evidence of the Mayan’s advanced archaeo-astronomic knowledge in this city, and we will visit the pyramid known as the "The Castle" or temple of Kukulcan. We explore the largest ballgame court in Mesoamerica, the skulls temple, the Jaguar’s temple, and the observatory. We then move on to the beautiful “cenote” (sinkhole) of Ik-kil, where we will be able to swim! Finally we will grab lunch and continue to Riviera Maya and our final destination.
