9 Day - Travesia - Crossing of Patagonia

An Explora adventure with comfort

9 Days

The travesias program is a unique trip for those who have travelled extensively and seek new experiences.
This nomadic journey is a multi-dayu trip through diverse and remote regions that are extraordinarily beautiful - yet little - known.  During the journey you will cross international borders and lodge in accommodations specifically designed for Explora, in a simple yet comfortable style.  You will enjoy high-quality cuisine created to satisfy the physical demands of the trip, along with good conversation.

Explora uses well-equiped vans with satellite communication for grups of up to 6 people, accompanied by an expert guide, chef and support staff.  Each journey starts or ends at one of the beautiful Explora hotels.  Available also from Torres del Paine to El Chalten - dates available on request.

Day 1

El Calafate - El Chalten

We will greet you at the El Calafate airport and then drive 220kms to El Chaltén, a small village located in Los Glaciares National Park, 220 kms (136.6 miles) northeast to El Calafate. Our center of operations and lodging during the following three days is at the El Puma lodge.

Day 2 - 4

El Chalten

During these days we explore the foot of El Chaltén on diverse excursions of differing length and ability, and during which you will get to know the geology, glaciology, flora and fauna of this remote region.

During our daily excursions we will visit the Torre and Fitz Roy mountain ranges, formed 12 million years ago. We will pass through old-growth forest and valleys that are characteristic of the Patagonian pampa, and border glaciers, rivers, cascades and lakes. We will also arrive at lookout points where we will be treated to outstanding views of El Chaltén and its mountain ranges, and from where we can observe condors and eagles.

Day 5

Cross into Chile - Torres Del Paine

We begin our journey to Torres del Paine National Park in the morning, passing by the icebergs in Lake Viedma and continuing on through the extensive pampa plains, bordering rivers and lakes of intense color.  In Calafate we will enjoy a lunch of typical cuisine of the area. We continue crossing the pampa until we reach the Cancha Carrera border. We cross to the Chilean side and head northeast toward Torres del Paine. Along the way we will pass a few lakes, and passing through the pampa and the sculptured formations of the Patagonian Andes. We arrive at our Hotel Salto Chico en la Patagonia in the afternoon, located in the heart of Torres del Paine National Park.

Day 6 - 8

Torres Del Paine National Park

At the Hotel Salto Chico (Explora Lodge), which functions as a base for exploring Torres del Paine National Park, you may choose from a variety of daily excursions. By foot or by horse, a few hours or a full day, low-key or demanding. Our excursions allow you to learn about the geology, history, flora and fauna of this beautiful region.
